Life on PurposeRecently, while doing some archery target shooting, a discouraged friend announced that he was “aiming randomly.” Well, that is not a reassuring statement to hear while a high velocity pointy stick is involved. It has occurred to me, however, that “aiming randomly” fairly accurately describes the life of many who say they love & trust Jesus. Perhaps you have expressed a desire to follow Jesus, learn from Him, and bring Him much glory, but find your life without a clear direction or purpose. While you may be in much company, your Forever Dad never intended for you to live that way. About 18 years ago, I committed my whole life to Jesus. Prior to that, I had trusted Him to save me from the eternal consequences of my sinful heart, but still held on to parts of my life to do it “my way”. Finally, God confronted me with the pointed question: There’s no in-between!” I finally realized that there is no such thing as a fence-rider. You are either on one side serving yourself or you’re on the other side serving Jesus. We get to choose daily which side we’ll stay on. At that moment, I committed my life to stay on the side of following, serving, loving, and imitating Jesus. No doubt that a decision like that comes with many challenges, and none have perfected it. However, I have, by God’s grace and wisdom, driven my stake on the side of Jesus forever. Jenny and I have resolved that we will live life on purpose. We will make decisions based on how we may lead others toward being made right with God and each other, not based on what improves our retirement plan, our comfort, our children’s inheritance, the respect of others, or our resume’s. Will you continue to “aim randomly” or will you resolve to live your life on purpose for the glory and renown of the God who bought you at an extreme price? we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 25:15 Your friend & fellow apprentice to Jesus, Todd |
